Dr. Hiroshi Bando, MD, PhD, FACP is an Associate Professor in Medical Research at Tokushima University, specializing in diabetes, metabolic syndrome, primary care, integrative medicine, music therapy, and sports medicine. He earned his MD in 1981, completed U.S. family-practice residency after ECFMG certification in 1983, and received his PhD in medicine in 1990, becoming a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1987. An editorial leader, he has chaired major national medical conferences, including the Japanese Primary Care Association’s annual congress in 2017. Beyond medicine, he is an award-winning pianist and a gold-medal athlete in in-line skating and athletics. Dr. Bando has authored over 2,000 publications, including more than 80 English-language medical papers and 30 books, and continues active research in low-carbohydrate diet therapies and novel diabetes treatments.
